Perspective 3, Jake

Hey there Jake here, I was one of the programmers who was on Sweet Dreams of Destruction.

To get this started I would just like to say how fun and how good of a learning experience that this entire project was and it wouldn't have been possible to without the other two programmers on the project.

For me this project started with a test integration of Liquidfun into a test project where we had a testbed for the particle system to ensure that this would be a viable solution to for what we needed in our project and as it turned out it ticked all the boxes of performance and stability.

The choice to use Liquidfun was also partly influenced by the fact that our teacher has had experience using the the physics engine with his own projects meaning that when it came to debugging some more specific things it was made a lot easier when I was able to get some guidance on where to look either online or within the codebase.

Once we had the integration down and working to a reasonable extent I was able to move to the player controller which was a rather challenging task.

Initially the player controller was set up to have the player be suspended on a spring so that they would not get caught on the corners of blocks when walking along the ground. That was working to an extent when we decided it was too floaty and we wanted something with some more responsiveness.

We moved through some more iterations of the player controller eventually setting on our current controller where the player is on wheel and rolls around avoiding issues with the corners of the blocks making a much better playing experience.

Thank you for having a look, feel free to reach out if you want to have a chat.

- Jake
