Kross Engine, our first initial game engine that is the backbone of our first game Sweet Dreams of Destruction was a valuable experience in what to do right and what we can improve on.
Our reflections on these opportunities lead to the creation of a new followup engine improving upon it's predecessor.
Kross Engine is a powerful engine that includes 2D fluid simulation and physics capabilities built with C++ and OpenGL 4.6. This project was a university project made by three driven programmers; Chris Deitch, Deklyn Palmer and Jake Warren all of us with a passion for game development and producing vibrant experiences for our player base. Building the custom technology behind this project was a difficult but rewarding endeavor that was brought to life in a studious 8 months.
The Engine's development was fast paced as time was a valuable resource in the production schedule of a project of this density, but our team pulled it all together with a product that we are exceptionally proud of.
The new Unbox Engine began initial prototyping towards the end of the development of Sweet Dreams of Destruction. Time frame left some technical debt that the group chose to improve on in later iterations of our tool sets. The new Engine will allow us to add new features that Kross Engines time-frame wouldn't allow and with the added benefit of greater understanding of architectural design.
Updates on the new engine's progress can be found in our Discord server.
